BLOCK4FILMS SOCIAL DISTANCING POLICY

Filming is still possible even with social distancing requirements in place.

For interviews, testimonials, performances and to-camera pieces, the two-metre rule is easy to adhere to…
• One-person crew handles all aspects of the shoot – filming, interviews, audio and lighting. Fewer bodies = lower risk
• Shotgun mic on boom for audio, so the subject does not need to wear or handle audio equipment
• No equipment is rented – it has only been handled by me, and is cleaned after every shoot

VIDEO AND BLENDED LEARNING

If you’re having to change your teaching methods due to social distancing guidelines, Block4Films can help.

Over the past three years, I’ve been creating video content for the University of Glasgow’s MOOCs, hosted on FutureLearn, and more recently I’ve helped revamp the university’s online Global Mental Health MSc, producing 120 videos over the course of a year to build a more modern and engaging digital course.

Video should not been seen as an add-on – it is essential to high-quality blended learning, and it is worth delivering polished, edited films without bad audio, poor lighting, and murky footage.

Students also want more than just talking heads and lecture note recitals. In a successful hybrid model, films have many purposes – and I’ve worked across a range of subjects, to create films that engage students in different ways.

• Case studies
• Interviews
• Vox pops
• Discussions
• Streaming
• Animated avitars
• Demonstrations
• Public engagement

I’ve written an article going into more detail on what video can and should achieve in blended learning, which you can find HERE
